Almost Summer

Almost Summer

As Summer slowly creeps into the Las Vegas Valley, some folks are very surprised that rather than announce itself with a triumphant roar, it comes in like a fluffy little kitten. This particular nether season is much more akin to "A Hazy Shade Of Winter", (thanks Simon and Garfunkel for that great song!) rather than the blustery old man Winter many Vegas transplants are used to. We think this is because somewhere on The Strip, Summertime is hiding at the BlackJack table drinking Manhattans, and puffing on an E Cig, wee into the proverbial morning of his annual appearanceImage title. We locals know this to be an uncontrollable time of  year where, neither Sun nor Storm prevail. I know that many of you may come to Las Vegas thinking of perennial Sunny bliss, but instead find this time of year confusing and at times dreary. As a born and raised local however, I rather relish this in-between time; glad to not have the sweltering beatdown that is this Valley in the Summer, or the windy frigid gale that can often be the Winter here. Now, if you are from back East or anywhere for that matter that it truly gets cold, please don't take this time to avail yourself of the opportunity to tell me what real cold is like. I have spent time in subarctic locals, and can assure you I know the difference. What I would suggest instead is to stuff this little article in a safe place and discuss it with me after you have been here at least 5 years. Your perception of cold will assuredly differ by then. I am not by the way trying to pick on those of you from elsewhere, rather to help you enjoy this Pre-Summer weather that neither lets you wear shorts, nor confines you to pants. It's truly hazy today, but it is also comfortable outside. That part of the year where I hope you may eventually take solace in the fact that you have yet to get a third degree burn from your car seat buckle. If that has yet to happen to you, don't say you haven't had fair warning!
